Dr. John Fabian was a Mission Specialist on STS-7. This flight marked several firsts in Shuttle history: first U.S. woman in space (Dr. Sally Ride), first 5-person crew, first retrieval of an object from orbit, first Shuttle rendevous, and was the third Shuttle flight to be launched without delays. Dr. Fabian deployed several commercial communication satellites with the Canadarm during this mission.

Dr. Fabian also flew on STS-51G as a Mission Specialist. This flight had an international crew and saw the succesful deployment of three communications satellites.
