Spring Break Trip 1999

The Air Force Flight Test Center Museum is in the process of becoming an excellent tourist site for the aviation community.  There are many plans for new buildings, displays, and static aircraft for the years to come.  Unfortunately, our visit that day was short because of a tight schedule and less than desirable site-seeing weather.

Braving a chilly breeze and light rain we hustle out of our convoy to gaze at a couple of aircraft which have seen better days.  From left to right: North American CT-39A Sabreliner, Lockheed F-104A Starfighter, and General Dynamics F-111A Aardvark.  Everyone rushed by the F-104 (which was a NASA chase aircraft for the first SR-71 flight)  because one of its sister ships sits on our campus.  The aircraft on the right was the first F-111 built.

Why do large aircraft draw large numbers of curious eyes?  This B-52D got the most attention during our short visit to the AFFTC Museum.  On the left is a Gloster NF-11 Meteor and on the right is a T-28B Trojan.
